Some patients can be challenging and tricky for a physician to deal with. Here are 4 strategies to handle situations with difficult patients.
"Many patients have the ability to derail your entire day, ask endless questions, or feel they can use a 15-minute visit to share their entire life story. You do want to sit down and look at the patient and make him or her feel cared for, but you can’t spend an hour with each one. Encourage the patient to focus on the issue at hand for one visit but perhaps make a follow-up visit to discuss the rest."
Since the pandemic, many patients have been behind in preventative screenings. Here's how physicians can help patients catch up.
"The pandemic caused plenty of patients to abandon their normal health care routines. One study suggests that 41% of people went without care during the pandemic, and many more fell into a harmful cycle of delaying early care because they had no immediate concerns. For all those patients who have not returned for their regular checkups, we must find ways to remind them of the importance of early care without shaming them for abandoning their routines."
Since the pandemic, pediatric practices have struggled with hiring employees and staff shortages. Our CEO, Susanne Madden, shares tips for hiring in a tight pediatric market with PCC!
"Before ever hitting the word “Submit” on a job posting website or in an email to your local newspaper, pediatric management expert Susanne Madden, founder and CEO of The Verden Group, notes that practice owners should have a solid understanding of practice culture and values before hiring a new candidate. “What is it that you're trying to build?” she said in a webinar co-hosted by PCC’s Chip Hart. “What are you trying to create?”
In previous posts, experts like Madden, Hart, and PedsOne billing CEO Tim Rushford have explained to PCC the need to hire for culture above all. Does this truly mean that practices should hire a culture fit beyond everything else? Even experience? Even skills or degrees?"
