The AAP and the American Heart Association (AHA) have updated guidelines on resuscitation in children and adults following drowning. Check them out here! 🩺
"Drowning generally progresses from initial respiratory arrest due to submersion-related hypoxia to cardiac arrest. The guideline notes that distinguishing respiratory arrest from cardiac arrest can be challenging since pulses are difficult to palpate accurately within the recommended 10-second window.
Rescuers should assume that anyone removed from the water without signs of normal breathing or consciousness is in cardiac arrest, and CPR should be administered with rescue breathing and chest compressions."

The AAP's new clinical practice guideline on prescribing opioids urges multimodal approach to help patients manage pain without unintended consequences. 💊
"The CPG calls for pediatricians and pediatric health care providers to treat acute pain using a multimodal approach, which includes the appropriate use of nonpharmacologic therapies, nonopioid medications and, when needed, opioid medications. Opioids should not be prescribed as monotherapy for children and adolescents who have acute pain.
Not all acute pain requires opioids. Clinicians should consider acetaminophen and nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drugs, which may be equally effective with fewer side effects for many conditions, including tonsillectomy, wisdom teeth removal and fractures."

A positive doctor-patient relationship can lead to better health outcomes and encourage patients to follow the treatment plan provided. Here's how to enhance this relationship at your practice!
"An important metric for patients is their ability to access the practice. It should be a goal to accommodate new patients within three to five days of their first telephone contact with the office. Ideally, established patients should be seen within two weeks of their request for an appointment. Of course, urgencies and emergencies should be seen the same day they contact the office."
